Film With Women Tied On Table

A little culture

That's it we're officially in the Golden Triangle region. In other words, the corner of opium and heroin. Or at least it was for now the only place where opium is found in museums (although it is likely that the last few fields resist). And if the region is called "Golden Triangle" is for the opium trade there was between Laos, Burma and Thailand. These three countries share a border, the Mekong, shot from some cities in a few minutes by boat you can see the 3 countries.

Speed Boat

We made the way into Chiang Saen to take a speed boat (a motorized dugout canoe) on the Mekong and join Sop Ruak. The walk was very pleasant, we were at the height of the water on this river so famous. We had the opportunity to reach an island in Laos where there is a market. You just have to pay an entry but no actual visa is required. It is mainly a tourist attraction. We preferred to stay in Thai land.

At the end of the ride we arrived at the symbolic point of the Golden Triangle where the three borders meet. We could even see Chinese mountains in the distance.

Sop Ruak

At this point symbolic famous tourist city has created: Sop Ruak. We find a Buddha in a boat where he is asked to keep his shoes and was a stage where built to take a picture next to Buddha. Obviously in the "real" temples where people come to pray it is forbidden to keep his shoes and to take a picture with Buddha. We even find the statues look like they came from India. But the staging is tasteful and in good tourists we took pictures.

We then mounted a hill from where we have the best view of the Golden Triangle.

Finally, we went to the Hall of Opium, a museum dedicated to the famous plant. We even learn how making heroin from opium.

After that, return to Chiang Sean mega tuk tuk with two Spaniards and then take the bus to Chiang Rai where the storm raged.
